Response good as over19,000 govt schools in state hold parent-teacher meet

JALANDHAR: The School Education Department in order to give parents an insight into their ward’s performance organised a parent-teachers meeting today in as many as 12,930 primary schools, 2,670 government middle schools, 1,740 government high schools and 1,867 government senior secondary schools at different districts and villages across the state.

The School Education Department in order to give parents an insight into their ward’s performance organised a parent-teachers meeting today in as many as 12,930 primary schools, 2,670 government middle schools, 1,740 government high schools and 1,867 government senior secondary schools at different districts and villages across the state.

In the meet, parents were apprised of the score performance of the students in the recently held S.A 1. The parents also discussed with teachers about the ongoing Parho Punjab project and various activities associated with it. Teachers informed parents about the weak as well as the strong points of their wards, and gave an outline of their performance by mentioning the areas that need attention.

As per sources, in many schools, teachers asked parents to conduct a random test of their wards by asking questions from the syllabus, which has already been covered. The students successfully passed the surprise test.

Kawaljeet Singh, a parent who visited, government girl’s senior secondary school here, shared his experience and said, “Although I was not willing to go initially, yet I went to see what the Parho Punjab project was about.”

He said, “I was impressed at seeing the decorative walls at the schools, and then after knowing about various activities and practical classes being organised on day-to-day basis in schools, I felt that things in the current education system are changing.”

Varindervir Singh, district coordinator Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab said the response of the parents towards the meet was appreciable. He said many parents asked the teachers to conduct such meetings and invite them to be part of various activities”.
