Ahead of the 72nd Independence Day, the city railway station and the bus station have virtually turned into a fortress. Extra check posts have been set up in and outside the stations and to ensure safety for passengers.

The bus stand, all prominent chowks and other areas are under tight surveillance. Security personnel are keeping a tight vigil on activities of visitors at the railway station, bus stand and other important spots to avoid any untoward incident.

Besides setting up ‘nakas’ on roads and conducting combing operations, RPF officials have enhanced patrolling. Officers have been told to keep records of visitors and verify their identity.

“CCTV cameras installed at the railway station are covering all platforms and the yard area. Two cameras each have been installed at the entry and exit points, outside and inside the station. The waiting room, parcel office and some stalls at the station are also under constant surveillance through CCTV cameras,” RPF officials said.

“The security has been tightened in the area due to Independence Day. Special nakas have been set up and special vigil is being kept at night. Extra troops have also been brought in to strengthen the security,” said ADCP Sachin Gupta.

He said the use of drones on the day had been banned. No person or organisation covering the event would be allowed to use drones.

Meanwhile, senior police officials have instructed the SHO-level officers to maintain vigil and ensure that all hotels and guest houses were checked to make sure no person was staying illegally in such places.
