The security has been tightened in the district and nearby villages in view of the ongoing festival season. Additional check-posts have been set up in and outside the railway station, bus stand and at prominent chowks.

“Security personnel are keeping a close eye on activities of passengers at the railway station, bus stand and checking vehicles regularly to avoid any untoward incident during the festive season,” said a police official.

The authorities claimed that vigil had been enhanced around educational institutes, religious places, busy markets in various localities and venues of ‘Ramlila’ and ‘Dasehra celebrations’.

Special checkpoints have been set up and vigil is being kept at night also. Extra troops have been brought in to strengthen the security.

Office-bearers and activists of various organisations have been roped in for seeking cooperation in implementation of strategic security plans drafted jointly by functionaries of the police and the civil authorities.

ADCP Sachin Gupta said management committees of private, social and religious bodies providing free or rented accommodation to visitors from other areas were alerted against giving shelter to suspicious persons and strangers. They had been advised to keep the records of visitors after verifying their identity on the basis of identity proofs issued by the government.

The ADCP said: “Women police personnel have also been deployed at several checkpoints, along with other policemen, in the district. Residents are requested to cooperate with the officials and in case they found anything suspicious in their areas, they should immediately report the same at the nearest police station.”
