Sports Minister to hoist Tricolour

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi will unfurl the national flag during the district-level Independence Day function at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium here.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma on Tuesday observed the arrangements for the mega event to be held on Wednesday.

He said: “The function will be organised in an unsurpassed manner. Students will present various cultural items showcasing the patriotic fervour. All arrangements for the event have been finalised.”

“Around 2,000 officials from the civil and police administrations have been deployed for the event. The district administration has the distinction of holding the best functions to mark the Independence Day in the state every year and this year also, it will uphold this glorious tradition,” the DC said.

As many as 2,500 students from various educational institutions of the city will perform in various items, showcasing the rich socio-cultural heritage of the state.
