Woman held on fraud charge

NAKODAR: The police have arrested a woman on charges of fraud and criminal conspiracy.

The police have arrested a woman on charges of fraud and criminal conspiracy.

Investigating officer (IO) Jit Singh said the suspect had been identified as Sarabjit Kaur, alias Sebo, wife of Rannjit Singh of Bhagat Singh Pura village in Hoshiarpur. She was using a fake name — Usha Ranni, wife of Amir Chandal, a resident of Sahem village.

Sukhdip Singh, a resident of Sangal Sohal village under Lambra police station, had lodged a complaint with the Jalandhar (rural) SSP that the suspect under a planned conspiracy had prepared her fake power of attorney and Aadhaar card and sold his 12 acres of land and got three sale deeds registered in Nakodar tehsil, causing him a loss of Rs 1.68 crore.

The investigating officer said a case under Sections 419 (cheating by personating), 420 (cheating), 465, 467, 468, 471 (fraud) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC was registered against the suspect and Jaswindar Singh, a resident of Shaheed Jarnail Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, Davindar Singh, a resident of Chak Karal village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Palwindar Singh, a resident of Dosanjh Kalan village in Phillaur, and Harjit Singh, a resident of Barra Pind in Phillaur.
