Youth dies of drug overdose, friend arrested

NAWANSHAHR: The district police have booked Gurjeet Singh of Behram under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The move came days after a youth died of drug overdose in Behram.

The district police have booked Gurjeet Singh of Behram under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The move came days after a youth died of drug overdose in Behram.

The father of deceased Gurpreet Singh on Monday approached the police and complained that the victim’s friend Gurjeet (36) had given him extra dose of drugs which resulted in his death. Gurpreet had died on October 10, but his father approached the police to report the matter yesterday.

The father, who is a farmer by profession, said he was shattered by the death of his son due to which he was not in a situation to complain about the same to the police.

Behram Station House Officer (SHO) Rupinderjit Singh said the accused had been arrested and the matter was under investigation.
