After “poor” show in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the state unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to hold a meeting within a day or two. The AAP would analyse party’s performance in the just concluded General Election.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Jagraon MLA Sarvjit Kaur Manuke said they were going to analyse party’s performance. She said a meeting in this regard would be held tomorrow.

Manuke blamed the opportunists who had joined the AAP for their self interests.

“People could not develop faith in the AAP as some opportunists wanted to present themselves as the leaders. During election campaigning, the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal leaders were misguiding the voters by making false claims that I will other outfit. I am not going to leave the AAP. We will work to strengthen the party,” she said.

It is pertinent to mention that the AAP’s candidate from Ludhiana constitunency Dr Tejpal Singh Gill lost his security deposit as he could not get more than one-sixth (16.6%) of the total valid votes. Gill was able to get just 15,945 votes and stood fourth in the constituency.

The AAP had managed to win the Sangrur constituency from where the party’s state president Bhagwant Mann contesed.

Parminder Singh, a senior volunteer of the AAP said, “The party should analyse its weaknesses. We did not expect low number of votes. There is a dire need to strengthen the outfit. Volunteers should not feel demoralized. Our win in Sangrur will work as a source of encouragement for us. We will prepare ourselves for the 2022 Punjab Assembly election.”
