City lads bat their way to Australia

LUDHIANA: The budding cricketers of Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, have brought laurels to the school by getting selected for the forthcoming Under-19 cricket tournament to be held in Australia. The tournament will be held from May 26 to June 8.

The budding cricketers of Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, have brought laurels to the school by getting selected for the forthcoming Under-19 cricket tournament to be held in Australia. The tournament will be held from May 26 to June 8.

Gurmanpreet Singh and Manjot Singh will participate in the tournament. Harmeet Kaur Waraich, principal of Nankana Sahib Public School, said: “It is a big achievement for us that both these players are the only students from Punjab to be selected for this tournament.” The boys have been selected after the trails conducted about a month ago at Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence.

Manjot Singh, who has been playing cricket since Class V, said: “I have already participated in five national and eight state-level cricket tournaments. This is the first time I will represent my state in an international tournament.”

While Gurmanpreet Singh, who has been playing cricket for the past four years, said: “I have played in two national and six state-level tournaments. I am looking forward to this international tourney.”
