Cultural events mark I-Day celebrations in Ahmedgarh

MANDI AHMEDGARH: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with fervour in the town and surrounding localities despite intermittent showers on Wednesday.

The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with fervour in the town and surrounding localities despite intermittent showers on Wednesday.

Functions were organised at the Town Hall, MGMN Senior Secondary School, Ahmedgarh; Victoria Senior Secondary School, Lehra; Paragon International School, Dehlon; Anand Isher Senior Secondary School, Chhapar; and Government Senior Secondary School, Kanganwal.

Councillors led by Suraaj Mohammad hoisted the Tricolor at the Town Hall where students of Sanatan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School presented patriotic songs. Teji Kamalpur, political secretary to MLA Surjit Singh Dhiman, was the chief guest.

A sub-division level function was held at Gandhi School where executive magistrate Kuldeep Singh unfurled the national flag.

Students of Lal Bahadur Public School, Anand Isher Senior Secondary School, Victoria Senior Secondary School, Green Valley Senior Secondary School, Islamia High School, Government High School Jandali, GSSS Kanganwal, Maya Devi Senior Secondary School, Victoria College for Women and Dyanand Adarsh Vidyalya Senior Secondary School presented elaborate cultural programme during the event.

Choreographies, patriotic songs and folk dances presented by students were appreciated by all. Outstanding performers in various fields and freedom fighters were felicitated by the organisers on the occasion.

Sub-division level functions of Payal and Raikot were held at grain markets of respective historic towns.

Celebrations at Samrala

Samrala: Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the new grain market, Samrala, in which Samrala SDM Getika Singh unfurled the national flag and took salute from a police team and NCC cadets. School students presented cultural items on the occasion. During the function, Civil Judges Pritma Arora, Rifi Bhatti, Jagmilap Singh Khushdil, Samrala MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon, former MLA Jagjiwan Singh Khirnia and Youth Congress leader Jatinder Singh Joga were also present at this time.

Khamano remembersKargil heroes

Khamano: The day was celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety at the Khamano grain market in which Khamano SDM Paramjit Singh unfurled the national flag and took salute from a police team and NCC cadets. School students presented cultural items on the occasion. The SDM honoured the families of freedom fighters and families of Kargil martyrs during the function. Khamano Civil Judge Himanshi Galhotra, Khamano DSP, Khamano SHO Navdeep Singh, Congress leaders Surinder Singh Ramgarh and Dr Amarjit Singh Sohal were also present.
