DC urged to reopen de-addiction centres

LUDHIANA: Dr Inderjeet Singh from Dr Kotnis Hospital along with members of other NGOs on Tuesday submitted a suggestion letter to Deputy Commissioner through General Assistant Apinder Singh Malhi regarding re-opening of drug de-addiction centres in the state.

Dr Inderjeet Singh from Dr Kotnis Hospital along with members of other NGOs on Tuesday submitted a suggestion letter to Deputy Commissioner through General Assistant Apinder Singh Malhi regarding re-opening of drug de-addiction centres in the state.

Dr Inderjeet said few drug de-addiction centres running under the scheme of the Central Government were shut after the grant was stopped. The guidelines sanctioned for de-addiction centres of the state clashed with the guidelines of the Central Government, he added.

“Free treatment was given to drug addicts at these centres but they were shut down due to some unknown reasons. The government should reopen such centres so that addicts get treatment, instead of putting them to jails,” he said. Religious institutions should also help in curbing drug addiction, he added.
