Khanna, August 13

All arrangements have been completed for the state-level function to be held at Issru village to pay tributes to Karnail Singh Issru, first martyr of the Goa Liberation Movement, on August 15. Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is expected to preside over this function along with other prominent personalities.

Khanna MLA Gurkirat Singh Kotli informed that Capt Amarinder Singh, Punjab In-charge Asha Kumari, MP Sunil Jakhar along with other senior ministers of the Punjab Cabinet will attend the function. He said he along with Payal MLA Lakhvir Singh Lakha had organised a number of meetings in the area and a large number of people were expected to participate in this function.

As per Gurkirat, the state-level will be organised at the village grain market where the tents are being erected for a large gathering of Congress workers and government officials for the state-level function.

Apart from the Congress, other main political parties will also organise their conferences to pay homage to martyrs. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is expected to organise its conference near Nankana Sahib Public School in the village. Yadwinder Singh Yadu, a senior leader of SAD, said party president Sukhbir Singh Badal along with other senior party leaders would address a big gathering at Issru on August 15.

However, there will be no conference of AAP this time at Issru due to infighting. Main AAP leaders, including Bhagwant Mann and Sukhpal Singh Khaira, are expected to garland the statue of martyr to pay tributes, but they will be coming differently along with their supporters as per some party workers.

The Lok Insaaf Party of Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA, is also expected to organise a march on August 15 against drugs from Bhattian village, near Khanna, up to Issru on a cavalcade of two wheelers and will pay tributes to the martyr.

Akali Dal (A), CPI, CPM and some other political and social organisations are also expected to organise their political meetings and pay tributes to the martyr.

"We have finalised all security arrangements and also released a route plan for smooth traffic on that day. We have also made nine general parking spots. The traffic will be diverted through other routes for daily commuters and heavy vehicles," Dhruv Dahiya, Khanna SSP.

"Tight security arrangements are being made in view of participation of a large number of people in this event," Jasvir Singh, Khanna SP.
