Judokas, athletes slug it out

LUDHIANA: Competition in badminton at the Bhaini Sahib sub-centre, besides in judo at the multipurpose indoor hall of Guru Nanak Stadium and in athletics at the main centre of the Sports Department was held during the ongoing Tandarust Punjab Mission on Saturday.

Competition in badminton at the Bhaini Sahib sub-centre, besides in judo at the multipurpose indoor hall of Guru Nanak Stadium and in athletics at the main centre of the Sports Department was held during the ongoing Tandarust Punjab Mission on Saturday.

According to a release, competition for boys and girls (U-17) was organised at Namdhari Academy, Bhaini Sahib, near here, in which Harshdeep Singh proved his mettle in the boys’ category, while Prabhjot Singh secured the second position. Among girls, Sehajpreet Kaur emerged victorious and Navdeep Kaur finished as the runner-up.

In judo, girls (U-14) shrugged their shoulders for top honours. In the below-32-kg group, Simran came out triumphant, while Baani and Himani secured the second and third positions, respectively.

In the below-36-kg category, Diksha bagged top honours, followed by Ishika and Vaishnavi at the second and third place, respectively.

Preeti proved too good for her opponents, as she emerged victorious in the below-40-kg group. Nancy finished at the second place, while in the below-44-kg category, Manisha romped home winner and Khushi secured the second position and Sonal third.

In the above-44-kg category, Ishroop stamped her class to clinch the title and Taranvir followed at the second place and Ramandeep Kaur at the third position. In athletics, Ajay Kumar of SCD Government College finished ahead of others to win the 1,500-m race for boys (U-20), whereas Harnoor Singh of GGN Public School secured the second place and Rajveer Singh finished at the third spot. Likewise, in the above-20 years’ group, Baljeet Singh of Haibowal emerged winner, while Gurkomal Singh of Paddi village and Sunil Kumar of Bahadurke finished at the second and third place, respectively.
