The accused in a triple murder case, Rajwinder Singh, has been playing hide and seek with the police. Over a week has passed when he brutally hacked his cousin Gurvinder Kaur (52), her maternal grandson Hitik Bassi (6) and granddaughter Mandeep Singh (8) to death but his whereabouts are still a mystery for the police.
The police questioned several people who were in touch with the accused on the phone. One of the contacts was a rickshaw-puller of Amritsar whose phone was used by someone to call the accused. The police also zeroed in on the rickshaw-puller but nothing concrete was found.
Sources confirmed that a police party also visited Hazoor Sahib in Maharashtra where the accused’s father worked. It was found the accused did not visit there. Several other gurdwaras in Amrtisar and Maharashtra were also checked. The police suspected the accused was taking shelter in a religious place under a fake identity.
When the police put his phone on surveillance after the crime, his last location was traced to Samrala Chowk. His phone went off thereafter. “When Gurvinder Kaur’s husband was looking for the house keys, he had also called up Rajwinder Singh (35). The accused although attended the call, he kept it on hold for 13 seconds and then disconnected the phone.
