To express their anger against the state government, the employees of Punjab Roadways have decided to wear black badges while on duty on Independence Day.

Giving this information here, Satnam Singh of Punbus Employees’ Union said the Punbus employees have decided to wear black badges on August 15 during duty as a mark of protest against the state government.

“Despite our repeated requests, the state government has not fulfilled our long pending demands. We have met senior authorities of the Transport Department on numerous occasions. We even held a meeting with the state Transport Minister and apprised her about the problems being faced by Punbus workers, but nothing has been done to meet our long pending demands,” said Satnam Singh.

In the past, the Roadways employees observed strikes and organised protest rallies, but the state government failed to fulfil their demands.

The demands are regularisation of employees, implementation of equal work equal pay, recruitment of new staff in Punjab Roadways, improving the condition of Roadways buses and awarding befitting time table to Punjab Roadways buses plying on various routes.

“We will protest outside the office of the Director State Transport in Chandigarh on August 28. If the government fails to meet our demands, we will intensify our struggle,” said Resham Singh of Punjab Roadways Punbus Employees’ Union.
