Servants steal Rs 10 lakh, gold

In yet another incident of theft by domestic help, two natives of Nepal allegedly stole Rs 10 lakh in cash and gold jewellery from a house at Kadian village located on the outskirts of Ludhiana on Saturday.

The incident took place on Saturday when the house owner and his wife had gone to attend a bhog in Ferozepur. The incident came to light on Saturday night when the house owner and his wife returned home and found the cash and gold jewellery missing from the house.

The police have registered a case against two persons under various sections of the IPC at the Salem Tabri police station.

In his complaint to the police, Sarabjit Singh of Kadian village stated that they had hired two Nepali-origin servants around two months ago. “On Saturday, we went to attend a bhog at Ferozepur. When we returned home around 8 pm, we found there was no one in the house and cash and gold jewellery kept in the house were missing,” said Sarabjit.

“We suspect the theft was committed by both servants. Unfortunately, we did not get their verification done by the police while hiring them,” he added.

Assistant Sub-inspector Jagdev Singh said the police had registered a case under Section 457 and 380 of the IPC against both servants, Krishan and Vishal. “Both accused have absconded. Raids are being conducted to arrest them,” he said.
