Ludhiana, August 13

The police have booked two brothers for allegedly duping a youth of Rs3 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.

The accused have been identified as Aslam Mohamad and Anwar Mohamad, both residents of Ambedkar Nagar in Mandi Ahmedgarh.

The Salem Tabri police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and 24 of the Immigration Act against them. However, both are absconding.

The case was registered on the complaint of Sukhminder Kaur of Paudi village, near Ludhiana. She said her son Parminder Singh wanted to move to Canada and they came in touch with the accused after reading an advertisement. “The accused promised that they can arrange a Canadian visa for my son and demanded Rs18 lakh. Two months ago, we handed over Rs3 lakh to the accused at Partap Singh Wala, while the remaining money was to be given after receiving the visa,” she said.

After some days, the accused arranged a visa of Thailand telling them that they would arrange the visa of Canada from Thailand.

“My son visited Thailand and spent a week there, but they failed to arrange a Canadian visa, following which my son returned to India. We asked the accused to either return our money or arrange a visa, but they failed to do so, following which we lodged a complaint with the police,” Sukhminder said.

IO ASI Rafiz Mohamad said the police have registered a case and further investigation was on.
