Woman booked for abetment of suicide

LUDHIANA: The Basti Jodhewal police have booked a woman for abetting suicide by her husband.

The Basti Jodhewal police have booked a woman for abetting suicide by her husband. The woman, Geeta, a resident of Kadiana Kalan, has been booked along with Kala of Atal Nagar, who is stated to be close to her.

The complainant, Varinder Kumar, a resident of Jaiswal Colony, told the police that his father, Deepak Gupta, solemnised a second marriage with Geeta in February this year. For the initial few months, the woman lived happily with them, but later she started harassing his father.

The woman, along with the mediator who arranged the marriage, was asking his father to transfer his property in her name and she was also pressing his father to give her Rs 1 lakh in cash. With persistent harassment, his father slipped into depression. On August 13, he committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his room.

The investigating officer, ASI Balbir Singh, said on a statement of the deceased’s son, an abetment of suicide case had been registered against his wife and raids were on to arrest her.

“We are conducting raids to nab the key accused, Geeta, who has gone in hiding,” said the ASI.
