Chandigarh, February 20

Yashita Singh’s 54 runs helped Bihar to defeat Chandigarh by 76 runs in the opening match of the Women’s U-19 One Day Trophy at KORM College Ground in Kadapa today.

Bihar skipper Shruti won the toss and opted to bat. The side posted a respectable total of 157/9 in allotted 50 overs.

Shruti opened the innings with Vishalakshi, but added 22 run for the first wicket. The skipper was bowled out by Jyoti for 17 off 22 balls, with three boundaries. Vishalakshi (2) was the next go after falling prey to Kashvee Gautam on the team’s total of 34 runs. Vaidehi Yadav then joined Yashita and the duo raised a 44-run partnership for the third wicket. Shivali accounted for Vaidehi (37 off 45 balls, with seven boundaries) but Yashita found another able partner as she raised another important 39-run partnership with Anshika Raj to take the team’s total to 117. The partnership was broken by Parushi Prabhakar as she claimed Anshika for 12. Parushi struck again as she claimed back to back wickets—Harshita (2), Yashita (54 off 98 balls, studded with nine boundaries) and Aarya (0) — to reduce the side to 142/7. Anita thereafter claimed Shivani (3) and Tejashwi (5) to further cut short Chandigarh innings at 153/9. Rachna Singh (4) and Sakshi (4) contributed equal share of runs to remain unbeaten at 157/9 in 50 overs. Parushi (4/33) was the pick of the bowlers, while Anita (2/22), Kashvee (1/6), Jyoti (1/12) and Shivali (1/34) were the other main wicket takers for Chandigarh.

In reply, the city eves were bowled out for 81 runs in 35.4 overs. Karmanpreet Kaur Sandhu was the first to go for a naught as her wicket was claimed by Sakshi. Parushi and Mehul pulled off some relief for the side by raising a 36-run partnership.

But Aarya swung into action for Bihar as she claimed Parushi for 9. Mehul was the next to go after being run-out by Vishalakshi for 19. Simran Johal (15) took the charge along with skipper Kashvee, however Tejeshwi claimed back to back wickets to push back Chandigarh at 48/5. She claimed Kashvee for 1 and Jyoti Kumari for a duck.

Harshita bowled out Simran, while Shivali (5) became the second victim of Vishalakshi’s throw. Harshita claimed her first wicket after claiming Kavita Raj (1) and Anita was run out by Vaidehi Yadav on the team’s total of 79/9. Tejeshwi claimed the last wicket of Chandigarh—Jyoti (1)— while Rameza Begum left unbeaten for a duck. Tejeshwi (3/14), Harshita (2/19), Aarya (1/11) and Sakshi (1/15) shined with ball for Bihar.
