Chandigarh, February 15

A city resident, who had returned from Singapore recently and is suspected to be infected with coronavirus, was admitted to the communicable disease isolation ward at the PGI here this evening.

The 36-year-old man, a resident of Sector 37, had flown from Singapore to Chandigarh on February 10. He works with a Singapore-based firm.

Dr Raman of the PGI said, “The patient had reported at the PGI with symptoms like running nose and cough a day before yesterday. He has been examined and kept in the isolation ward. His samples have been sent to the AIIMS, Delhi, and the report is most likely to be received in two days.”

The patient is stable and not on ventilator.

Several international cases of coronavirus can be traced to Singapore. The country’s health ministry had recently reported its biggest daily jump in coronavirus cases.

On January 27, a suspected case of novel coronavirus was admitted to the PGI. However, his samples were tested negative at the National Institute of Virology, Pune. The patient was admitted with fever and some coronavirus like symptoms. He had recently been to China.
