An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a boy in a private school in Beas here on Friday. The boy is also reported to be minor.
Initially, family members of the victim were hesitant to lodge a complaint. The police persuaded them to submit a written compaint. Mother of the victim told the police that her daughter studied in Class II at a private school in Beas. She was dropped by her father at the school around 8 am.
Later, they received a call from the school that she was crying. The family rushed to the school, where they were told that a boy had allegedly harassed her. She said when they came home, her daughter complained about pain in her private organs and it was then they came to know that she was sexually harassed.
The police have registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act. Amritsar rural SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal said while further investigations were under way, medical examination of the girl would be done on Saturday.
