Kaithal: The department of political science organised an intra-departmental lecture on ‘Interruption and Diagnosis in Learning English’ at RKSD College, Kaithal. Keynote speaker, Dr Rajbir Parashar, head of department of English, RKSD College, said: “In the present time, knowledge of English has become more important than ever, because English as the medium of knowledge-exchange is the most important medium in the world. It is easier for students of Haryana to learn English than in other states of India, as there is no involvement of regional language.” Principal Sanjay Goyal advised students to leave the classical form of English and adopt it in practical form.

Prof gets APSPA Best Paper Award

Rohtak: Dr Deepti Hooda, associate professor, department of psychology of Maharshi Dayanand University has been awarded the Asia Pacific School Psychology Association (APSPA) Best Paper Award-2020 in the first international conference on mental health and well-being among children held at the National Institute of Education, Colombo (Sri Lanka), from February 11-12. Dr Deepti Hooda’s paper titled ‘Executive Function of Adolescents in Relation to Parent’s Executive Functions and Parenting Style’ was adjudged the APSPA Best Paper Award 2020. Her research paper focused on executive function skills, which provides important foundation for successful learning and adaptation. Dr Deepti also participated in the symposium of the conference and presented a paper on ‘Traditional Education System: A Foundation for Mental Health and Wellness’, which was quite appreciated.

Moot court at Sonepat varsity

Sonepat: National Law University, Bhopal, won the first position in the three-day International Environment Moot Court Competition-2020 which concluded at OP Jindal Global University, Sonepat. National University of Advance Legal Studies, Kochi bagged the second position. Best student award was given to Smriti Gupta of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law and the best speaker award was bagged by Aditya Shankar Dixit from Bhopal University. Geeta Mittal, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, gave away prizes among winners and exhorted participants to work for the improvement of environment. Host university’s VC Dr C Rajkumar asked students to use their knowledge at world level.

Workshop on stress management

Kurukshetra: A workshop on ‘Stress Management’ was organised by the CBSE on February 15 at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Senior Secondary Public School, Dhanora-Ladwa. Resource person from CBSE Rekha Chauhan suggested that teachers should not criticise a child in the presence of other children, a teacher must be neutral and impartial in behaviour, and every child must be given a fair chance to exhibit his or her talent. About 36 teachers from more than 12 schools attended the workshop from Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Karnal.

Doc bags 2nd prize for research

Rohtak: Prof (Dr) Vani Malhotra from the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at PGIMS, Rohtak, bagged the second prize for her research work at a national conference ‘AICOG 2020’ organised at Lucknow recently. The prize was given under the category of maternal and child healthcare. Prof Vani Malhotra carried out the research over a period of one year on 100 antenatal women. Fifty antenatal women were given misoprostol sublingually, while an equal number of women got it through the conventional vaginal route. The maternal and foetal outcome were compared in both groups. It was observed that the sublingual group had shorter induction-delivery interval, more deliveries within 12 hours of induction, more fruitful outcomes for both mother and neonate, lesser chances of infection and more satisfactory for patients.

Festival on Indian curries

Kurukshetra: Students of the department of tourism and hotel management at Kurukshetra University organised a festival on Indian curries in association with Hotel Park Plaza, Zirakpur. Trained chef from the hotel gave a live demonstration to students on the preparation of Indian curries, including popular foods such as vegetable biryani, shahi paneer, vegetable kababs, kadai paneer and halwa. Students prepared the dishes in the kitchen laboratory, which were served in the adjoining restaurant. Vice Chancellor Dr Kailash Chandra Sharma and senior University officials tasted the food.
