IPS monopoly must make way for CAPF

THE Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, seeking to ensure greater opportunity for promotion and predominance for Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in all seven of its organisations has been passed by Parliament. First, the Rajya Sabha passed the Bill on April 1, while the Lok Sabha cleared it on April 2. It is now law. Clearly, the government was keen that this be passed in the Budget session.
