Bathinda, December 11

The Congress workers today staged a protest, against the Modi led BJP government over the soaring onion prices, outside Finance Minister Manpreet Badal’s office here on Wednesday.

A protest march was taken out from FM’s office to Hanuman chowk. The protest was headed by Manpreet’s brother-in-law Jaijeet Singh Johal wearing an onion necklace.

The workers shouted slogans and slammed the Modi government for being "insensitive" to the problems being faced by the people.

During the protest, District Congress Committee Bathinda Urban president Arun Wadhawan said skyrocketing inflation had suppressed the middle-class. The rising prices of onion have upset the budget of the houses, but Modi government has failed to pay heel on this issue.

Johal said Modi government had no control over the rising inflation as the situation was getting worst. Apart from onions, the prices of petrol and diesel too were not consumer friendly.

He said Congress government in the state had given relief to the people by slashing Rs5 per litre on petrol, but the Centre had no concern about the people. “Instead of controlling onion prices and providing some relief to the people, the ministers at the Centre are giving baseless statement on the issue,” he said.
