Cop bags gold in national shooting championship

Ajitesh Kaushal, an ace shooting champion, has made the Punjab Police proud by winning three medals in the 13th All India Police Shooting Championship that was held in Pune from January 12 to January 18. Kaushal, who is at present posted as sub-inspector in Mohali, has been sharpening his shooting skills on the PAP campus here.

In the championship, Kaushal clinched the gold in the 25-metre-long range rapid fire pistol category by scoring 568 out of 600.

He defeated Olympian Vijay kumar in the last round of the games. Vijay, who managed to clinch a silver at the London Olympics, scored 565 out of 600 at the police shooting championship and stood second.

Owing to the gold medal bagged by Kaushal, the Punjab Police shooting team also managed to acquire a bronze in the team event.

During the championship, Kaushal scored 551 out of 600 in the 25 m standard pistol category on January 14 that helped his team win a silver. He won a gold, a silver and a bronze in the week-long games.

He had previously won several medals in the national and international games. Playing the sport for the past around 10 years, Kaushal had won medals in the World University Championship, Junior Asian Championship (2014), World University Championship (2017) and other events.

His father Rakesh Kaushal said considering his achievements, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh also deputed him as a probationer sub inspector in the Punjab Police as a special case in the Punjab Cabinet meeting about two years ago.
