11 more fall prey to virus in Ludhiana

Eleven persons lost their lives to Covid today in the district and as many as 184 persons tested positive for the virus, taking the total cases to 16,783. The death toll rose to 688 while the recovery rate of patients reached 86.89 per cent.

The Health Department confirmed that 14 persons lost their lives on Wednesday which include one patient each from Hoshiarpur, Moga and Jammu and Kashmir.

Civil Surgeon Rajesh Bagga said 5,199 samples were collected till date and now, there were 1,509 active cases in the district.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said under the Mission Fateh campaign of the state government, the number of Covid-19 patients getting cured in the district was increasing with each passing day.

He said efforts were being made to keep people safe from the deadly disease.

The Deputy Commissioner said till date, a total of 2,42,619 samples had been collected, of which reports of 2,40,783 samples had been received and 2,22,020 samples were found negative while reports of 1,836 samples were pending.

Sharma said now, the total number of patients related to Ludhiana is 16,783, while 1,982 patients belong to other districts/states.

He said till date, 42,053 persons had been kept under home quarantine in the district and at present, the number of such persons was 4,149. Today, 204 persons were sent to home quarantine. Whenever the district administration and the Health Department, Ludhiana, come across any positive or suspected Covid-19 cases, their samples were immediately sent for testing. As many as 5,199 samples of suspected patients were sent for testing today and their results were expected.

He appealed to residents to follow all directions of the state government and stay indoors to save themselves and others from the virus.
