Even as J&K recorded 20 Covid deaths (16 in the Jammu province and four in Kashmir), 2,796 positive patients recuperated in the past 24 hours across the UT. As many as 1,578 patients recovered and were discharged in the Jammu province and 1,218 in Kashmir, thus taking the recovery tally to 46,530.

However, 1,249 new positive cases (646 in the Jammu province and 603 in Kashmir) were reported during the same period. With 1,249 new cases, Covid tally in J&K reached 67,510.

The official bulletin issued on Wednesday said out of 67,510 positive cases, 19,918 were active positive, 46,530 had recovered and 1,062 died (269 in the Jammu division and 793 in Kashmir).

The bulletin further said out of 14,64,565 test results available, 13,97,055 samples had tested negative.

Meanwhile, in view of the situation emerging due to the spike in positive cases and deaths, Jammu District Magistrate Sushma Chauhan on Wednesday declared various localities of the district as containment/red zones.

As per the order, Muthi Gaon near Matador Stand and Purkhoo Camp (north) falling under the Domana police station, Rajpura and the locality near government school, New Plot falling under the Bakshi Nagar police station, Ram Vihar (Ward No. 35), Janipur falling under the Janipur police station, Rajiv Nagar, Narwal falling under the Trikuta Nagar police station near KC Hyundai, Channi Rama falling under the Trikuta Nagar/Channi police station, Ward No. 40, Poonch House, Talab Tillo falling under Nawabad police station, Ward No. 9, RS Pura (Chohala Mohalla) falling under, RS Pura and Nai Basti police station and Gajansoo Marh falling under the Kanna Chak police station have been declared as containment/red zones.

According to the order, the SOP issued by the State Executive Committee will be applied to the said areas.

These areas will be under strict lockdown and tight perimeter control, except for essential needs. There will be no movement, whatsoever, in and out of the containment zones. All business establishments, except medical shops will remain closed in the containment/red zone. However, for any medical emergency, individuals can contact the 24X7 Control Room at 0191-2571616, 0191-2571912 and necessary facilitation will be done.

As per the order, it will be mandatory for the persons residing in designated containment zones to get themselves tested and any refusal in this regard will invite action, including filing of an FIR under relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act. The Magistrate and SHO concerned of the area will ensure that 100 per cent sampling and testing is done.
