Shimla, July 9
The number of Covid cases in the state shot up to 1,140 with 39 new cases being reported today. As many as 33 new cases were reported from Solan, three from Shimla, two from Una and one from Mandi district. Solan district saw the highest single-day spike with 33 persons, including two women and a two-year old girl, testing Covid-positive today taking the tally of positive cases to 159. There were 59 active cases.
Medical officer Dr NK Gupta said of the 33 cases, two were reported from Jharmajri in Baddi which included a 27-year-old woman and her two-year old daughter. They were in home quarantine.
The 29 others were from Nalagarh and are the contacts of earlier positive cases which had been detected from Sara Textile at Bhatiyan village and comprise factory workers and their families. They were in the 21-49 age group and were residing at the housing colony of Sara Textile and villages of Dhana, Dattowala, Nichli Bhatian and Bhatian.
Sara Textiles reported its first case on July 3 and two more employees, including a manager, tested positive yesterday. The factory’s two units have been sealed by the administration after detection of the earlier case.
Meanwhile, 12 persons, who were the primary contacts of an Army man and his wife testing Covid-19 positive last evening at Dagshai, have been quarantined.
