As many as 708 Covid deaths took place in Kangra district in April and May 2021 while no infected patient died in the corresponding period last year. The number is likely to rise in the coming days as the death registration record is updated in 21 days.

Sources said the record was likely to be updated till June 21. As per the Health Department records, not even one death due to Covid occurred during the period last year.

In April 2021, however, 978 deaths were registered of which 149 were due to the infection. In May 2021, 1,336 deaths were registered of which 559 were caused by Covid. The maximum number of casualties occurred in May 2021 since the outbreak of the disease.
