New Delhi, October 1

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu today gave cheques for Rs 3.5 lakh each to the kin of six staffers of the secretariat who died of Covid during April and May this year.

This assistance of Rs 21 lakh to Covid victims of the secretariat was provided out of the contributions of RS staffers. The employees who died had put in 21 to 34 years of service in the secretariat.

Naidu interacted with the family members of the deceased and enquired about their sources of income and whether the retirement benefits had been settled.

The chairman lauded the staff’s spirit of camaraderie and said “this gesture is in line with the Indian ethos of caring and sharing in the hour of distress”.
