The ongoing tension surrounding the T20 World Cup has taken a turn with BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla issuing a stern statement on X: “The video circulating with altered, AI-generated audio in my name is fake.  @realshoaibmalik, @ARYNEWSofficial AND @Salman_ARY, please stop circulating this misleading content.” Shukla clarified that the video of him broadcasted on Pakistani TV was altered using AI (Artificial Intelligence).

The controversy stems from a Pakistani cricket show ‘Har Lamha Purjosh’, which airs on ARY News hosted by former skipper Shoaib Malik, featuring an edited video of Shukla speaking about the recent controversy surrounding the T20 World Cup 2026. The manipulated audio hinted that BCCI had made repeated requests to ICC in order to intervene and convince Pakistan to play against India.

“I am delighted to see the outcome of the deliberations initiated by the ICC representative on the repeated request by BCCI to convince Pakistan to play against India. It is a good and amicable solution which has been found to give priority to cricket. This is what has been done,” Rajeev Shukla can be heard saying in the altered video.

However, Shukla quickly debunked the footage, saying that the audio is edited, designed to spin a false narrative about the Pak-ICC deadlock. Shukla in his original clip can be seen praising the outcome of deliberations initiated by ICC representatives who had gone to Lahore to talk to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as well as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Pakistan announced that they will boycott the match as a show of support for Bangladesh but following negotiations with the global cricket body, they made a dramatic U-turn on their decision. Shukla urged the public not to be misled by deep fake technology designed deliberately to incite tension.
