HPCA Challenger Women’s Trophy concludes, highlights development of women’s cricket in Himachal

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) concluded its Challenger Women’s Trophy with Team Red defeating Team Blue in the final. Conceived as a developmental tournament, the competition featured three teams — Team Red, Team Blue and Team Yellow — comprising women cricketers from across the state.

The HPCA adopted a mixed-team format, with each squad comprising a blend of senior and junior players. The format was aimed at providing younger cricketers with the opportunity to play alongside experienced state players while gaining competitive match exposure.

The tournament also brought together players from different districts and age groups who usually compete against one another in domestic cricket. By sharing dressing rooms and playing as teammates, participants had the opportunity to build on-field coordination and strengthen team dynamics.

“This tournament was never about revenue or commercial entertainment; it was purely about opportunity and unity,” said the HPCA Secretary. “Our singular focus was to provide our girls with high-stakes match exposure and a stage where talent, not tenure, dictates success. Seeing a junior player construct an innings alongside a senior state player and watching them bond as a cohesive unit is exactly the kind of growth we set out to achieve.”

The HPCA congratulated Team Red and Team Blue on reaching the final and thanked the players, coaches and support staff for their contribution to the tournament.
