Lok Insaaf Party leader Simarjit Singh Bains was arrested along with his brother Balwinder Singh and supporters on the second day of their protest march – Dalit Vidyarthi Bachao Yatra – against the alleged post-matric scholarship scheme scam, here on Thursday.

Bains brothers along with their supporters were arrested from the Lamma Pind Chowk here and were taken to the police station No. 8.

They have been booked for violating the Covid protocol, said police.

An FIR has been lodged against them under section 188 of the IPC, section 3 of the Epidemic Act and section 51 of the Disaster Management Act.

Lok Insaaf Party, which started the Dalit Vidyarthi Bachao Yatra from Nawanshar on Wednesday, is demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged scam and dismissal of Punjab minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot.
