De-addiction centre opens at hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib

Fatehgarh Sahib, Feb 20

As part of the ongoing campaign launched by the Punjab Government against drugs, 40-bed drug de-addiction-cum-rehabilitation centre was inaugurated at Desh Bhagat Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, by Dr Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, here today.

The centre is equipped with all latest facilities for treatment of those, who addicted to drugs.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Zora Singh said, “Drug addiction is a brain disease. Addicts become dependent on drugs. They use it despite having full knowledge of its harmful effects on health. Addiction is considered disease as it changes the structure and functioning of the brain. The younger generations, particularly teenagers, are worst victims of drug addiction.”

While stressing on the importance of meditation, Pro-Chancellor, Dr Tajinder Kaur, said, “With meditative practice and good dietary habits drug de-addiction process automatically sets in. During meditation, certain hormones are secreted in the body, which is responsible for cheerfulness and increase in tolerance power.”

In their address, sarpanches and panches from the area appreciated the community facilitation programmes of Desh Bhagat Hospital. They assured to help addicts to avail facilities at the hospital to protect society from drug addiction.
