New Delhi, January 14

The Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has identified a list of eight constituencies where it is strong ahead of a central leadership meeting of the party with the BJP for sharing of seats in the Assembly elections.

Delhi’s SAD leaders said the central leadership has been apprised of the situation and it will soon talk with the BJP in the matter.

Delhi state president Harmeet Singh Kalka said on Tuesday that the core committee of the state party in its meeting has identified the seats. The report has been submitted to the leadership.

These are the seats from where the party has received a number of applications for tickets, he said.

DSGMC president and sitting SAD-BJP MLA from Rajouri Garden Manjinder Singh Sirsa, said: “The core committee of the Delhi state has identified the seats and now it is up to the leadership to take a call in the matter.”

The possibility of addition of couple of more seats to the list could not be ruled out, Sirsa added.

The seats include the four on which SAD traditionally contests and has strong presence. They are Hari Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Kalkaji and Sadar Bazar.

The other seats are Rajinder Nagar, Moti Nagar, Tilak Nagar and Rohtas Nagar.

Kalka further said the leadership will decide if the party will contest on its own symbol or that of the BJP.

He played down the proposed January 18 meeting of anti SAD-led Sukhibir Singh Badal leaders here to explore the possibility of floating a new Akali Dal. The leaders include central SAD leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

Kalka expressed concern that so called leaders claiming to be “Takshali Akalis” from Punjab are coming all the way to Delhi to be part of a meeting being organised by two former DSGMC presidents PS Sarna and Manjit Singh (GK) against whom FIRs have been registered regarding corruption.

Sarna and Manjit Singh GK, however, have said in the past that they have been framed in cooked up charges.
