118 flights cancelled, 16 diverted due to low visibility

As many as 118 flights were cancelled, while 16 were diverted at the Delhi Airport on Tuesday morning due to prevailing fog conditions. Several trains were running behind schedule due to poor visibility.

According to the India Meteorological Department, visibility at the IGI Airport in Palam dropped to 50 meters at 5:30 am. It subsequently improved to 300 meters at 8:30 am.

As per Railway officials, nearly 100 trains were running behind schedule due to poor visibility, primarily in the northern part in the country.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) issued an advisory on Tuesday warning of possible flight delays at the select airports in the Northern India due to reduced visibility.

In a post on X, the AAI urged passengers to remain in touch with airlines for the latest updates and to factor in extra time for airport procedures.

“Due to prevailing fog conditions on Tuesday, visibility levels across Northern India have reduced at select airports. This may impact flight operations, including possible delays. Passengers are advised to stay in close contact with their respective airlines through official communication channels for latest flight updates. Travellers should also plan their journeys accordingly by allowing additional time for airport arrival and check-in procedures,” said the Airport Authority of India.
