16 injured as bus overturns on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
Driver dozes off at wheel; vehicle was on way to Bhilwara
Sixteen passengers suffered injuries after a Bhilwara-bound sleeper bus overturned on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway late on Monday night.
The injured persons were rushed to a hospital. Two passengers sustained serious injuries and were referred to a hospital in Delhi. According to the police, a sleeper bus departed from Delhi for Bhilwara. As the bus approached Bhankdoji village on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, the driver dozed off and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. Most passengers were asleep at the time of the mishap.
After getting information, a large number of villagers reached the spot and carried out rescue operations. A police team also reached the spot and rushed the injured persons to Nuh and Ferozpur Jhirka hospitals. The injured persons undergoing treatment at Firozpur Jhirka include Nisha, Atul, residents of Delhi; Dheeraj from Aurangabad, Palwal; Reena from Sunder Nagar, Udaipur; Rahul from Naulakha, Dwarka Colony, Rajasthan; and Kanhaiyalal from Udaipur. Two passengers - Sachin and Prithvi, residents of Delhi, - suffered serious injuries were referred to a hospital Delhi. Others sustained minor injuries.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus overturned after the driver dozed off. We are examining CCTV footage to gather more accurate information about the accident,” said Inspector Subhash Chand, SHO of the Ferozpur Jhirka police station.
