24 kg drugs concealed in cricket thigh pads seized

NEW DELHI:The CISF today, on profiling basis, selected a foreign passenger for random checking of his luggage at Terminal-3, IGI Airport.

New Delhi, August 12

The CISF today, on profiling basis, selected a foreign passenger for random checking of his luggage at Terminal-3, IGI Airport.

During screening of his two trolley bags , some suspicious items were noticed inside them, in which the bags of cricket thigh-pads appeared to be unusually heavy.

One of the pads was torn open, in which a pouch was found sandwiched between the pad and its cushion. All the thigh pads were found to have similar concealments  filled with powdery substance (each weighing 500 g, appx total weight of 24 kg).

When checked using drug detection kit, the powder tested positive for the drug, Pseudoephedrine.

The passenger was identified as Rodgers Silavwe (39), a Zambia national, who was supposed to travel to Mumbai and onward for Addis Ababa on August 12.

Accused Silavwe, alongwith the recovered narcotic substance was handed over to NCB officials for further legal action. — TNS
