The India Youth Congress (IYC) workers, who staged protests in the ongoing AI Impact Summit, entered by registering online like regular visitors and displaying QR code-based entry passes, official said on Friday.
The Delhi Police has filed an FIR in this regard under Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for unlawful assembly, violating prohibitory orders and causing hurt to, assaulting and disobeying a public servant. At least four IYC workers were arrested in this regard, they added.
The incident took place around 12:30 pm inside Exhibition Hall No. 5, where around 10 IYC workers, who had registered online to attend the summit, suddenly broke into protest.
According to police, the group had entered the venue wearing sweaters and jackets over T-shirts carrying provocative messages. Near the hall, one of them removed his outer layer and began waving the printed T-shirt, setting off the protest.
Additional Commissioner of Police Devesh Mahla said the protesters were swiftly removed to prevent any disruption to law and order. They were taken to the Tilak Marg police station, and legal action was initiated as authorities work to identify all those involved.
“Those arrested were identified as Hari Krishna, Kundan Yadav, Ajay Kumar and Narasimha Yadav, all members of IYC,” said a police official.
A 28-second video was shared by the IYC on X with the message: “The truth can’t be suppressed behind the glittering stage of the AI Summit. When corporate interests appear to trump national interests and softness in foreign policy is clearly visible, protest becomes a duty!”
Reacting to it, IYC national president Uday Bhanu Chib said they were not against the AI Summit. “We are against any compromise with India’s interests. When the country’s farmers are being compromised, anti-India trade agreements are being signed and youth are being pushed into hate politics while keeping them unemployed, should we remain silent? This country belongs to 1.4 billion citizens,” he added.
Following the protest, the security of the summit was heightened.
