Police arrested Shubham, who was driving the Mercedes, from the spot. He is reportedly the son of a sub-inspector in the Haryana Police.

A beer bottle was recovered from inside the Mercedes. Eyewitnesses alleged that Shubham was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Police are investigating the circumstances and the allegation.

A fatal accident case is being registered, while Urmila’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.

Police said no gathering was reported at the accident site.

The incident comes amid continuing concerns over fatal road crashes in Delhi. In July, a 20-year-old man, Yashvendra, died after the car he was driving allegedly skidded on a slippery road, fell into a drain and overturned near the Nangal Dewat red light in Vasant Kunj.

According to police, Yashvendra was travelling with a female friend when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle. He sustained injuries and later succumbed to them.
