8 more arrested in Uttam Nagar Holi clash that left youth dead

Total arrests reach 14 with two minors detained

Delhi Police on Monday said that it has arrested seven more people and apprehended a minor in connection with the death of a youth, in a clash on Holi, in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar.

The deceased, identified as Tarun, died after sustaining severe injuries in the clash that was allegedly triggered by a dispute between two families from different communities over a balloon, in the JJ Colony area on March 4, according to police.

So far, a total 14 have been arrested, while two minors have been detained, DCP Dwarka Kushal Pal Singh said.

The arrested individuals were identified as Sayra (40), Sarifan (50), Salma (36), Suhail (21), Sameer Chauhan (20), Firoj (22) and Ismile (50).

Earlier on Sunday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi carried out a demolition drive and razed illegal portions of the house linked to the main accused.

Singh said, “In continuation of the arrests earlier made in the case, the eighth accused, Imran, alias Bunty (38), a resident of JJ Colony, Hastal Road, Uttam Nagar, has also been arrested.”

The DCP added that as per the statements of deceased Tarun’s family, stringent provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act had been invoked.
