82 unlicensed arms, over 16k ltr of illicit liquor seized

NEW DELHI: Around 13,001 people have been booked, 82 unlicensed arms, 2,113 cartridges and 16,495 litres of illicit liquor have been seized in the national capital under various sections of the CrPC and the Delhi Police Act since March 10 when the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections came into force.

Around 13,001 people have been booked, 82 unlicensed arms, 2,113 cartridges and 16,495 litres of illicit liquor have been seized in the national capital under various sections of the CrPC and the Delhi Police Act since March 10 when the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections came into force.

Going by the data shared by Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh today, 235 FIRs have been registered under the Excise Act in which 242 people have already been arrested for the Excise Act violation while 75 FIRs have been registered under the Arms Act and 93 persons have been arrested along with seizure of 94 kg narcotics.

Singh said 90,937 unauthorised political hoardings and posters have been removed while four FIRs/DD entries, including two against the Aam Aadmi Party and one against the Bharatiya Janata Party whereas one against others, have been made against political parties since the announcement of the poll schedule.

In addition, six cases have been registered in connection with the misuse of vehicles, violation of loudspeakers, illegal meetings and gratification of voters, Singh said.

He said around two lakh people have been added to the electoral roll of Delhi during the past two months, taking the total to 1.39 crore eligible voters. The total number of voters till date includes 77,05537 men, 62,82366 women and 665 third gender voters along with 1,81,756 voters between the age group of 18 and 19.

Since the Model Code of Conduct came into force there has been an increase of 90,000 to one lakh voters in the city, according to him.

The Lok Sabha elections to be held in seven phases will commence on April 11 with the counting of votes being on May 23. Elections to the seven seats in Delhi will be on May 12. A total of 13,816 polling stations would be set up with a model polling station in each assembly constituency in Delhi which has 70 assembly seats, said election authorities, adding that there would be around 425 critical polling stations.
