9 IYC workers get bail

The Youth Congress workers were detained after staging a protest against what the organisation described as an “anti-India trade deal”, alleging that the agreement would adversely impact the country’s farmers and youth.

Reacting to the court’s order, the IYC termed the bail as a “victory for justice and democracy”.

In a statement, the organisation said that the release of the nine workers reaffirmed the constitutional right to protest and rejected attempts to label dissent as anti-national.

“This is not just a legal relief for our colleagues, but a reaffirmation that protesting against government policies is a fundamental democratic right, not an act of treason,” the statement read.

The Youth Congress further indicated that its agitation against the trade deal would intensify in the coming days, asserting that it would continue to oppose policies it believes compromise the interests of farmers and young people across the country.

According to the organisation, its national office-bearers were summoned in the day for questioning at the Connaught Place police station at 3 pm.
