The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday alleged that no FIR has been registered against members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad who allegedly forced their way into Gargi College, and questioned the role of the police in the matter.

Addressing the issue, Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that ABVP members broke open the college gate and entered the campus in the presence of the Delhi Police. He said despite the incident, no FIR had been registered so far.

“Gargi College is a women’s institute. In the presence of the police, ABVP members broke open the gate and forcibly entered the premises. Is this the kind of women’s empowerment being promoted?” Bharadwaj said, questioning why the authorities had not acted against those involved.

He alleged that the police, which function under the office of the Lieutenant Governor, had failed to take action and asked why directions had not been issued to register a case.

According to the AAP leader, the party’s student wing, Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), has filed a formal complaint with the police regarding the incident.

ASAP office-bearer Eeshna Gupta said members of the student wing gathered outside the Delhi Police headquarters and submitted a complaint seeking action against those responsible. She said several student leaders, including Rahul Rai, Deepak Bansal, Anjali and Kuldeep Bidhuri, were present during the submission.

Gupta alleged that tensions arose during a college election process, when a candidate backed by ABVP raised concerns over fairness. She claimed that despite Gargi College not being affiliated with the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), individuals linked to it arrived on the campus along with others.

“They broke the main gate and created a ruckus to enter the women’s college. Students protested and raised slogans asking them to leave,” she said, adding that students have questioned how external individuals were allowed entry into the campus.

She said instead of engaging with the college administration, those involved resorted to disruptive behaviour, prompting the student wing ASAP to approach the police.

ABVP denies wrongdoing, alleges misconduct

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday rejected allegations of vandalism at Gargi College and instead accused sections of the college administration of bias and irregularities during the recent student union elections.

The student organisation claimed that the electoral process was allegedly influenced in favour of candidates affiliated with left-leaning groups such as All-India Students' Association and Students' Federation of India.

According to the ABVP, a candidate had approached Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Aryan Mann on April 17, alleging unfair conduct of elections and misconduct by non-teaching staff during polling. Following this, ABVP members and the DUSU president reached the college premises.
