New Delhi, November 18
The AAP today alleged that the Election Commission’s enquiry into the deletion of names from the voters’ list was "farcical”, an allegation that the EC has rubbished as “baseless and without facts”.
AAP claimed the EC has failed to comply with and flouted the prescribed rules for large scale deletion of voters alleging the EC in cohorts with the BJP has deleted names of voters.
An AAP delegation led by CM Arvind Kejriwal had recently met with Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat in this regard.
The EC had ordered a door-to-door survey in Harikesh Nagar and Lal Kuan of Tughlaqabad Assembly segment. Eleven teams carried out the exercise from November 16 to 18, said AAP’s spokesperson Raghav Chadha adding that the party is exploring possible remedies, including legal options.
In response to the charges, the District Election Officer (South East) said all due process has been followed in the deletion process.
In a statement issued late Sunday, the election officer stated the surveys were carried out in most “transparent manner by involving political parties at each step including sharing the complete list of deletions made in these areas since February 2015”.
Chadha claimed the list used for verification was different from that EC uploaded on its site — something said to be older list pertaining to 2013. — TNS
