AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday vowed to eradicate the menace of unemployment in the next five years, if his party remains in power after the elections.

“I have decided that over the next five years, while continuing the work we have done in education, healthcare, electricity, water, roads, sewage and metro services, my top priority will be to eliminate unemployment from its roots,” the AAP supremo said in a televised address.

The former chief minister revealed that his team had facilitated employment for 12 lakh youth during the pandemic and is now working on a comprehensive plan to secure jobs for Delhi’s children.

“I am traveling across Delhi for election campaigning, visiting every lane and meeting people...However, one thing deeply pains me. Our children, despite being educated, are sitting at home, searching for jobs,” Kejriwal said.

The AAP leader expressed concern over unemployed youth who, at times, fall into bad company and ultimately get involved in criminal activities.

“You may recall the Covid-19 pandemic time when markets, shops and industries were shut. Unemployment rose on a massive scale and several people lost their jobs. At that time, through efforts made by the Delhi government, we managed to provide employment to 12 lakh youth,” Kejriwal said.

He mentioned that the AAP-ruled Punjab government had provided government jobs to over 48,000 youth and facilitated private sector job opportunities for more than 3 lakh youth in the past 2 years.

“With the cooperation of two crore Delhi residents, I am confident that we will eliminate unemployment from the Capital in the next five years,” Kejriwal said.
