AAP govt launches city-wide drive to repair broken roads
Acting on directives from AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP government launched a city-wide campaign to repair Delhi’s broken roads on Monday.
Chief Minister Atishi and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia began their day by inspecting various roads, pledging to make Delhi pothole-free by Diwali.
Addressing mediapersons, Sisodia stated, “On Kejriwal’s instructions, we inspected several roads in East Delhi. Many are in poor condition, riddled with potholes and ongoing construction. The BJP has attempted to disrupt our development efforts by jailing Kejriwal, but now that he is out, we will expedite the completion of pending work.”
Atishi, who is overseeing repairs in South and South East Delhi, added, “We’ve initiated inspections across the city. Ministers have been assigned specific districts to ensure that no road goes unattended. Our objective is to make all PWD roads pothole-free within the next 3-4 weeks.”
She highlighted problem areas such as the Modi Mill Flyover, Chirag Delhi Flyover and Ashram Chowk, where potholes and waterlogging have significantly disrupted traffic. “We are prioritising these roads. Black-topping and repair work will be completed within days,” she assured.
Other key AAP leaders, including ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai and Mukesh Ahlawat, also participated in the inspections. Bharadwaj, inspecting roads in East Delhi, expressed frustration over delays caused by rain and previous political tensions. “Many roads were damaged due to rain. The BJP tried to halt our progress, but we are now working on a war footing to fix this,” he remarked.
Rai, inspecting roads in North East Delhi, including the busy Wazirabad Road, accused the opposition of deliberately stalling development. “The BJP ruined the roads to create issues for the people. But now, we are back to solve this crisis,” he asserted.
