AAP workers protest rising pollution levels in Capital
Beat ‘thalis’, raise slogans against Delhi Government
AAP workers, along with party’s legislators, on Tuesday staged a protest outside the Delhi Secretariat, beating ‘thalis’ to highlight the pertaining issue of alarming pollution levels in the national capital.
During the protest, they took a dig at Chief Minister Rekha Gupta by raising slogan “Pollution, Tumko Jana Padega Bhai,” (pollution, you will have to leave the city).
During the protest, AAP Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said: “The Rekha Gupta government should learn what AQI actually means. They are indulging in data fudging at AQI monitoring centres. Water is being sprayed at monitoring stations. New monitoring centres are being installed inside forests so that pollution levels appear lower. A fake Yamuna is also being created.”
He alleged that despite GRAP restrictions, construction work is going on in the city. “GRAP rules framed by the Supreme Court had to be implemented. Under GRAP-IV, even-odd should have been enforced. Are Rekha Gupta and Manjinder Singh Sirsa more educated than Supreme Court judges that they decided to ignore these directions?” he asked.
He said on ground, nothing changes whether it is restrictions under GRAP II, GRAP III, or GRAP IV. “Everything remains exactly the same. BS-4 restrictions exist only on paper. Where is the enforcement? Only name changes from GRAP-I to GRAP-II to GRAP-III and GRAP-IV,” he said.
He also questioned Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on the status of artificial rain in the city.
