A 33-year-old man, who was convicted of rape of his maid’s minor daughter and victimising his wife’s friend, was arrested from Gurugram, the police said on Tuesday.
Karan Doltani, a resident of Matiala Extension in West Delhi, was arrested on Monday following sustained surveillance and specific intelligence.
The accused had been absconding as an interim bail jumper in two cases, registered under Section 376 IPC at Police Station, Bindapur.
According to the police, in 2016, the accused sexually assaulted daughter of his then domestic help at his residence. Subsequently, in 2022, the accused again committed a sexual assault upon his wife’s friend, leading to the registration of another FIR.
He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the competent court. Thereafter, on the basis of the medical condition of his wife, the accused was granted interim bail for a period of 28 days.
However, the accused failed to surrender after the expiry of the interim bail period and has been deliberately evading arrest since then, thereby violating the conditions of bail and obstructing the process of law, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said in a statement.
