ABVP slams Mamata govt for protocol lapses during Prez Murmu’s Bengal visit
Says such lapses were “extremely unfortunate”, against democratic norms
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Saturday criticised the West Bengal government over alleged administrative lapses during the recent visit of President Droupadi Murmu to the state. The student organisation accused the Mamata Banerjee led government of failing to maintain proper protocol and creating obstacles during the President’s participation in the 9th International Santhal Conference organised by members of the Santhal community.
ABVP said the alleged mismanagement and failure to provide a venue befitting the dignity of the President reflected poorly on the state administration. The organisation said that in a democratic system, such lapses during the programme of the country’s First Citizen were “extremely unfortunate” and against democratic norms.
According to ABVP, the situation forced organisers to change the programme venue multiple times. The organisation claimed that despite the conference being related to the Santhal community, the first woman President of India from a tribal background was not provided a suitable venue for the event.
The student body also alleged that the incident highlighted administrative disorder in the state and reflected an insensitive approach towards tribal communities and women.
ABVP National General Secretary Virendra Sing h Solanki said, “This incident is a deep wound on the conscience of Indian democracy. The Mamata government’s anti-women and authoritarian attitude is not hidden from anyone. When a woman from the tribal community assumed the highest constitutional office of the country, the entire nation celebrated. But today, in West Bengal, failing to provide an appropriate venue for her participation in the Santhal conference and creating obstacles for her programme shows that the Mamata government has lost its balance due to political hostility. ABVP strongly condemns this act and demands that accountability be fixed for disrespecting the President.”
