Alka Lamba, the Congress candidate for Kalkaji, launched a scathing attack on both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during a press conference on Tuesday, accusing them of ‘misogyny’ and ‘unethical’ election practices. Lamba highlighted derogatory remarks allegedly made by the BJP candidate from Moti Nagar, Harish Khurana, who, according to Lamba, made offensive comments about women, including BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj.

To support her claims, Lamba played a video in which Khurana is heard using abusive language about women, along with a disturbing remark suggesting that one could secure a BJP ticket by “supplying girls.” In the same video, Khurana also revealed that the BJP had promised him Rs 2.5 crore for distributing funds in slum areas but that he only received Rs 70 lakh.

Lamba questioned whether the Election Commission was taking note of Khurana’s confessions and whether senior BJP leaders—including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and MP Bansuri Swaraj—would address the “abusive and objectionable remarks” made by their own candidate. She condemned the BJP’s use of money and power in the electoral process and criticised the party for its disrespectful treatment of women.

Shifting her focus to the AAP, Lamba played another video showing a vehicle from Punjab carrying liquor, money, and AAP publicity material. She accused the party of attempting to misuse its power and resources, much like the BJP, to influence the outcome of the election.

Lamba also called out AAP for its treatment of women leaders, specifically pointing to the abuse faced by AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the hands of an aide to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. She further criticized the party’s disregard for Atishi, the party’s nominee for Chief Minister, who was referred to as a “temporary Chief Minister” and was notably absent from the party’s high-budget publicity campaign, despite her nomination.

Lamba urged the women voters of Delhi to recognise the disrespectful treatment both the BJP and AAP have shown toward their female representatives and to consider this when casting their votes in Wednesday’s election.
